Overmorgen werkt papa weer
In Nederland krijgen vrouwen zestien weken verlof rond de geboorte van hun kind. Mannen moeten na twee dagen alweer aan het werk. Is dat eigenlijk wel rechtvaardig? Dat is een van de dingen waar ze op de faculteit der wijsbegeerte aan de Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam over nadenken.
Prof. dr. Ingrid Robeyns
Econoom en filosoof Ingrid Robeyns (1972) is de internationaal meest geciteerde praktisch filosoof die werkzaam is in Nederland. Ze is als hoogleraar Praktische Filosofie verbonden aan de faculteit der Wijsbegeerte aan de Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam. Zij houdt zich onder meer bezig met rechtvaardigheidsvraagstukken. Een centrale theorie in haar werk is de Capability Theorie. Zij doet onderzoek op het raakvlak van de analytische politieke filosofie, ethiek, economie, en genderstudies. Ze heeft een indrukwekkende publicatielijst opgebouwd, met een aantal publicaties die nu al als invloedrijk worden beschouwd. Haar theoretische werk over rechtvaardigheid is vernieuwend omdat het nieuwe thema’s aansnijdt, zoals rechtvaardigheid tussen ouders en niet-ouders en omdat het rechtvaardigheid ook op immateriële terreinen bestudeert.

My name is Ingrid Robeyns. I am a philosopher and economist by training, working as a professor in Practical Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy, Erasmus University Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. I am married to Roland Pierik, and we have two sons.
In 2006, the Dutch National Science Foundation (NWO) awarded me a Vidi-grant to direct a project entitled Social Justice and the New Welfare State. The overall aim of the project is to investigate how the welfare state needs to be adapted to three socio-demographic changes (fertility decline, aging, and the changing nature of gender roles), in such a way as to be a just welfare state for children, parents and non-parents, the elderly and their carers, and women and men. This project runs from October 2006 until September 2011. Currently Anca Gheaus, Anders Schinkel, and I are working on this project. Hugh Lazenby, currently a PhD student at Oxford University, worked for this project from September 2007 till August 2008; Irene Pronk worked on this project from September 2007 till februari 2009. Martijn Boot is working on a closely related NWO-funded project on the transition from ideal to nonideal theories of justice, which runs from May 2009 till April 2012.
In addition to my work for the Vidi-project on Social Justice and the New Welfare State, I am writing a monograph on the capability approach.
Together with Harry Brighouse I recently finished an edited volume ‘Measuring Justice’, in which primary goods and capabilities are compared as metrics of justice. This edited volume contains contributions by Elizabeth Anderson, Richard Arneson, Norman Daniels, Erin Kelly, Colin McLeod, Thomas Pogge, Amartya Sen, Lorella Terzi, Elaine Unterhalter, Harry Brighouse and myself, and is published by Cambridge University.
In 2006, I joined the (semi-)academic group blog Crooked Timber. When I have time, I write there about anything that crosses my mind and which looks like something someone somewhere might find interesting.

De Jonge Akademie van de KNAW vertolkt sinds 2005 het jonge geluid in de wetenschap. Wetenschappers die binnen de Jonge Akademie benoemd worden, hebben zich binnen hun vakgebied al op jonge leeftijd internationaal bewezen. De Jonge Akademie houdt zich onder meer bezig met interdisciplinaire kansen voor onderzoek, popularisering van wetenschap, de toekomst van wetenschap en wetenschapsbeleid.
